1957 356A Porsche Coupe
-
Chassis 58589., Aquamarine Blue Metallic, with red vinyl and corduroy inserts interior.
-
Engine # 64301 1600 Normal
-
Transmission # 13033 644 with BBBC gears
-
Current actual mileage is 44,690
-
All engine, trans and all body panel numbers match the Kardex. The interior is in good overall condition, but the driver’s seat has a small hole about a ¼” in diameter in the center bottom of the corduroy, looks like from a cigarette burn, but I was told the original owner did not smoke. Also the corduroy has an area where it meets the vinyl on the driver’s seat that has separated and maybe could be carefully stitched. The seat corduroy was originally Grey and has faded to tan, I was told the material is cotton base and this is not uncommon in old material that sees sunlight. All the red vinyl interior is in very good condition. The carpeting is in excellent condition, no wear apparent in the usual entry points. Headliner is clean and not ripped, and is in good condition. Both sun visors are complete, but the plastic has shrunk over time. Driver mirror has slight silver flaking off. All gauges work properly and are in good condition.
-
No known rust, except on the driver’s door bottom rear area. All the areas where the factory used lead around the doors and deck lid can be easily seen because the porosity of the lead trying to creep out after 59 years. The floors, rockers, and battery box area are all solid and original.
-
The car appears to have had a small dent in the nose at one point in its early life, which was repaired. No damage to the under structure is apparent.
-
All door gaps are tight and very nice. The chrome trim is in good overall condition. All of the rubber trim is in very good condition.
-
The windshield and all the other glass is original, and in very good condition.
-
The original wheels and tires are presented on the car, the wheels are painted body color as correct for the period. The hub caps are correctly date stamped. The car also comes with a set of correct dated silver painted wheels and current Firestones tires for road use.
-
Engine compartment and sound deadening original, but show use. The engine runs great, no signs of smoking either on startup or continuous running. Trans shifts perfectly, and stops straight, the car needs no mechanical attention whatever. Get in and drive.
-
The original owner fitted the car with amagneto which remains in place; the car also comes with the original distributor and coil in like new condition. There is an original tool kit which is missing one screwdriver.
-
The car comes with two complete set of keys, all documentation that proves provenance. The car comes with its original service book, drivers manual, all in the original scarce red binder with the chassis number written in grease pencil on the cover.
-
It appears that the car was repainted many many years ago, it is our opinion that the car was re-painted when the nose was damaged because they could not match the Aquamarine Blue Metallic paint without painting the entire car. All door jambs and dash are original paint. The bumpers probably were not repainted, but are in excellent condition. The wheels also have original paint.

#20 is one of very few 356 Coupes that can run with and, on occasion, beat the top Speedsters and Roadsters campaigned in Vintage Racing. In doing so, she constantly chases down and passes race cars of higher classes. She truly is a “Giant Killer”
